Singapore's
largest Indian event was organised by the SINDA (Singapore
Indian Development Association), on 27 Mar 2004, to honour its
3000 over strong volunteer force which has significantly
contributed significantly towards the educational development
of Singaporean Indians.
Deputy Prime Minister Hon'ble Mr. Lee Hsien Loong officiated
as the Guest of Honour, and also present at the ceremony were,
Singapore Foreign Minister Hon'ble Prof S Jayakumar, Acting
Minister for Education Hon'ble Mr. Tharman Shanmugaratnam,
Member of Parliament & President of SINDA Mr K Shanmugam, Mr
Satpal Khattar, Member of Council of Presidential Advisors Mr.
J Y Pillay other distinguished Ministers and Members of
Parliaments and other dignitaries from the Indian Community in
Singapore.
Bhavan's
Indian International School was entrusted to deliver a very
key message to the Indian community in Singapore – "Unity in
Diversity" as a opening message to DPM Lee and invited guests.
This was achieved through a brilliant performance of "Mile Sur
Mera Tumhara" by over 80 BIIS students, showing colourful
diversity of some of its most beautiful states of Himachal
Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Maharashtra, Assam, Gujarat &
Punjab.
Captivated by the strong message of Unity in Diversity, which
always makes all Indians proud of, DPM Lee remarked that it
was indeed an "outstanding performance by a school".
Two other schools, Raffles Girls School (RGS) and Chinese High
(CH) performed later in the ceremony and presented Indian
Orchestra and Chinese Orchestra respectively.
Deputy Prime Minister Hon'ble Mr. Lee Hsien Loong also awarded
the "Appreciation Award" to the Bhavan's Indian International
School, which was received by it's Chairman (Administrative
Board), Mr. Atul Temurnikar.
